Step One – Clearing Space

Use a pair of gloves to remove the tray, and place it on to a protective sheet, such as a sheet of tarpaulin.

Step Three – Clearing Ash and Old Wood Away

If you own a traditional furnace, then you’ll most likely rely on coal or wood for your heating. Once burnt through, these resources will crumble in to tiny pieces of ash, and if allowed to come in to contact with furniture or clothing – it can be a nightmare to remove. To avoid this, wear gloves and keep a large bin bag close to hand. When removing the ash, be careful not to breathe too much of it in – and a face mask is recommended. You can either tip the ash in to a bag, or sweep it up using a dustpan and brush.

Step Four – Refitting Your Tray

Once the ash and debris have been cleared from the tray, you can slide it back in to place, and then secure it. Your furnace should now be good to go, and you’ll be able to refill it with firewood or coal ready for its next use.
